Whale Sharks season is here!

Whale Sharks season is here!

From the end of May to the beginning of September, we are lucky enough to get to snorkel with the biggest fish in the ocean: Rhincodon typus or whale shark.

This slow moving and peaceful giant can be as big as 42 feet (12 meters) and live as long as 100 years old!

While it’s not known what the global whale shark population is, the species is considered endangered by the IUCN due to the impacts of fisheries, bycatch losses and vessel strikes.

Whale sharks are known to gather at a dozen major feeding locations around the world, from Western Australia and Indonesia to Belize. But between May and September, the waters of Mexico’s Quintana Roo state, on the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula, draw far more animals than other spots and attract an estimated 800 or more in a given season.

Manta Divers Cancun and its affiliates are proud to offer one the most magnificent tours available, the whale shark excursion. Enjoy their beauty while snorkeling with the world’s largest living fish!

You can book this tour on our website www.mantadivers.com !

You will be happy to hear that safety is our number one concern, that being said you will be required to wear a life jacket so that you remain buoyant at the surface.

Expect to be in and out of the water quite a bit as the number of snorkelers that can be in the water at any one time with the whale sharks is limited. The boats we use are on the smaller side and have a maximum capacity of ten passengers.

As for any marine life-related excursion, some rules apply in order to protect our precious environment, you can find them below!
