Want big highlight to your week. Our Open Water + Cozumel Course 2-tank day trip is a favorite for clear water, dramatic walls, and that classic Cozumel drift feel, all as an easy full-day excursion from Cancun. Many guests combine Cancun reef and MUSA dives with a Cozumel day to get a well-rounded scuba diving Mexico itinerary.

During whale shark season, we offer whale shark snorkeling as a special full-day experience. It is one of the most memorable things to do in the region, and it pairs perfectly with a week that also includes Cancun scuba diving, cenote diving for certified divers, or a Cozumel day trip.

Scuba Certification Cancun PADI Courses with Small Groups and Safety-First
If you are choosing a dive school for certification in Cancun, focus on training quality, safety culture, and how much attention you will actually get in the water. Manta Divers is the only recognized Gold Palm, Cancun PADI 5 Star dive center. We are well known for small groups, clear training in English and Spanish, and a calm teaching style that works especially well for beginners. Your course dives are not just boxes to check. Cancun offers great training conditions with reefs, MUSA, and other local sites that make buoyancy, navigation, and comfort easier to build in real ocean environments. We keep your path clear from your first breath underwater through advanced and professional-level training, always following current PADI standards.
For guests who want more than the minimum, we also offer the PADI Plus Program, a more coached, confidence-building experience for divers who prefer extra time in the water. It adds focused skill sessions and extra dives that help you improve buoyancy, trim, navigation, and overall comfort, with more time to practice the things that make diving feel easy. It is a popular upgrade during short trips because it helps you progress faster with less stress. We offer several Plus paths that fit different travel styles: Open Water plus Guardian for families, where a certified parent joins a junior diver for shared training days and closer support; Open Water plus 3 Day for guests who want a little more time, a little more repetition, and a stronger foundation than a rushed schedule; and Open Water plus Cozumel, which lets you finish strong with a Cozumel day trip once you are ready and conditions align.
Our goal is simple. You do not just earn a card, you build real ability and calm confidence for future dive travel. If it has been a while since your last dive, we can also recommend a refresher before you jump into deeper or more advanced plans. For certified divers, we can help you add experiences like cenote cavern dives or a Cozumel 2-tank day trip once your skills and schedule line up, always matching sites to conditions and comfort level. Any advanced add-ons like cenote cavern dives are for certified divers only, never for students, and we keep every recommendation realistic based on your experience, conditions, and the time you have in Cancun.
I've never dived — can I try it first?
Yes. Our Discover Scuba experience lets you breathe underwater with an instructor beside you, no certification needed.
How do I get certified?
Get your PADI Open Water certification in a few days. The license that lets you dive anywhere in the world.
Can I keep going after Open Water?
Definitely: Advanced, Rescue, Divemaster and Nitrox are all here when you're ready.
What's the "Plus" option?
Our Open Water Plus packages bundle your certification with real adventure dives, like adding a Cozumel day so you finish certified and with unforgettable dives already logged.
Swim With Whale Sharks in Cancun

Every summer the world's biggest fish arrives off Isla Mujeres, and from about June to August you can snorkel right alongside them on a whale shark tour from Cancun. Whale sharks are gentle, slow-moving filter feeders that gather here by the hundreds to feed on plankton blooms, so swimming with whale sharks in Cancun is snorkeling only no scuba, no cage, and no experience needed which makes it one of the very few big-animal encounters that families and first-timers can share.
Whale shark season in Cancun is short and weather-dependent, running roughly June through August off Isla Mujeres and Cancun, and the calm summer water usually makes for easy, comfortable snorkeling. Manta Divers runs small-group whale shark snorkeling with a marine guide in the water beside you, life vests for everyone, and hotel pickup included on our shared trips, so you focus on nothing but the animal in front of you.
Because the whale shark tour season is so limited and boats fill quickly in peak summer, travelers should book early to lock in a date. If seeing the biggest fish in the ocean is on your list, this is the reason to plan your Cancun trip between June and August.
When is whale shark season in Cancun?
Roughly June to August each year, off Isla Mujeres. Timing shifts a little year to year with the plankton — see our whale shark page for this season's dates and how to book.
Can you scuba dive with whale sharks?
No — it is a snorkel-only encounter by law, so no certification is needed and kids can join. Full details on our whale shark snorkeling page.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer to swim with whale sharks?
Basic comfort in the water is enough; everyone wears a flotation vest and a guide is in the water with you. More on what to expect here.
