MAYAN DIVE SAFARI
20 Dives in 7 days
A TRIP LIKE NO OTHER IN THE MEXICAN CARIBBEAN
From a night dive at MUSA’s underwater museum to Cozumel’s soaring walls and the remote Banco Chinchorro, this 7-day, 20-dive small-group safari links Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Tulum cenotes, Mahahual, and Puerto Morelos. Built by The Manta Team after years of scouting, it delivers smooth logistics and unhurried, safety-first scuba across wrecks and reefs, with optional cenotes and a wild atoll day in the Mexican Caribbean.
You focus on the fun. We handle the rest: pro guides, drift-ready boats, gear included if needed, and a flexible weather day that keeps the adventure on track. Want more variety? In season, add a whale shark snorkel day or a shark diving day. It is the most diving you can pack into one week without feeling rushed.
Small group: max 8 divers.

Day 3 World Famous Cozumel
One of the marquee days of the safari. We check out in the hotel first thing in morning, head to Playa del Carmen, then cross on our fast boat to Cozumel for signature wall diving and the C-53 wreck. Expect blue water, long visibility, and effortless drift along Santa Rosa or Palancar where giant sponges, black coral, and turtles are common. The second splash targets the C-53 (ex USS Scuffle), a photogenic wreck with a easy penatraion dive. We close the day with a relaxed shallow reef drift for long bottom time and easy photography.
Throughout the day you will get small-group ratios, drift procedures that feel second nature, and smooth logistics that keep the focus on world-class Cozumel wall diving.
From December to February, Dive 3 becomes a bull shark dive off Playa del Carmen. This is a controlled, non-feeding, observation on a sandy bottom with strict spacing and clear briefings. Depths are moderate, currents are manageable, and encounters are unforgettable.

Day 4 Option
Cenotes in Tulum or Ocean Dives
Choose your adventure today. This is also our weather buffer, so we can slide it earlier or later in the week if sea conditions change, without cutting dives.
Option 1: Cenote cavern diving
Experience world-class cenote diving in the daylight zone of Mexico’s limestone caverns. Guided cavern routes keep you on permanent lines in clear freshwater with dramatic light beams, haloclines, and ancient formations. Cenote sites are chosen on the day with favorites like Dos Ojos, Tajma Ha, Chac Mool, and El Pit for qualified profiles.
-
Suitable for confident Open Water divers with solid buoyancy and trim
-
Ratios 4-1 and strict no-silt, no-touch protocols
-
Water is about 24 to 25 C. A wetsuit is recommended.
-
Lights are provided
-
No sunscreen, bug spray, or aerosols in cenotes. Rinse areas are designated for cameras

Option 2: Ocean reef diving (Riviera Maya coast)
Prefer salt water and turtles? We run two relaxed Tulum reef dives or nearby sites with easy drifts, coral ridges, and seagrass edges that attract green turtles, rays, and schools of grunts and chubs. Profiles are gentle and photography friendly, with site selection made for the calmest lee and best visibility that day.
Planning notes Cenotes and Reef Dives
-
We finalize your choice the evening before based on group preference and conditions
-
Sandwiches and snacks are included on the cenote plan. Ocean dives include water and light snacks

Day 5: Banco Chinchorro atoll
Time to head offshore to one of the wildest dive days in the Mexican Caribbean. Banco Chinchorro is a remote biosphere reserve and the largest atoll in Mexico, famous for clear water, healthy coral, and very few boats. The crossing can be easy and fast or slow and bumpy depending on wind and sea state, so exact splash times are set on the day. Once on site, we plan three multilevel drifts along walls and coral gardens that show Chinchorro at its best.
What you will see
Expect to see the biggest barrel sponges, hard corals, and regular turtle and eagle ray sightings. Nurse sharks are common and love to interact with divers, jacks and chubs cruise the edges, and pelagic surprises are always possible out here. Profiles are relaxed and designed for long, enjoyable bottom time.
With favorable conditions we are usually back on the Mahahual coast between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

Day 6 — Mahahual local reefs, three relaxed dives
Today is all about easy Mahahual diving on close-by Costa Maya reefs. Sites like Punta Tam, Escalones, and Faro Viejo offer spur-and-groove coral, sandy canyons with garden eels, and gentle drifts ideal for long, photo-friendly bottom times.
How the day flows
We make a short run to each site, then return to shore after every dive for comfortable surface intervals. After the first dive, you will have to pack and check out of the hotel. After the third dive, say goodbye to Mahahual and settle in for the drive north to Puerto Morelos where the final chapter of the safari begins.
For photographers
Wide-angle for coral structure and turtles, macro for blennies and cleaner shrimp on the canyon walls. Midday sun lights up the shallow ridges, so ambient light shots work well.

Day 7 — Puerto Morelos multi-option day
Your final day is tailored to season and flight time. If you fly soon, choose a non-diving plan so you keep a safe no-fly interval of at least 18 hours. Pick one of the three options below.

Option 1: Scuba diving in Puerto Morelos
Wrap up with two relaxed reef dives inside the Puerto Morelos National Marine Park, one of Mexico’s first protected reef areas and home to UNAM’s coral restoration program. Expect classic spur-and-groove structure, elkhorn patches, and fishy ledges on sites like Mesa, Puente Coral, Aquarium, and Fish Market. These shallow to mid-depth profiles are drift friendly, great for long bottom time, and perfect for wide-angle reef scenes. This option finishes around midday and closes the scuba portion of the trip.
Why you will love it: easy conditions, healthy coral, short boat rides, and a peaceful fishing-village vibe that feels very Riviera Maya.
Good to know: this is the last scuba day of the safari. We end diving activities after the second tank.

Option 2: Whale shark snorkel tour June through August
Swap tanks for fins and meet the largest fish in the sea. After a marina briefing and breakfast, we head to the whale shark aggregation zone for guided snorkel entries with strict turn-taking and respectful distances. Encounters are snorkel only in Mexico. Giant mantas often cruise the area, especially later in the season. The day includes a beach stop for lunch and a short reef snorkel before returning to Puerto Morelos.
Included: boat, captain, guide team, breakfast at the marina, picnic lunch, snorkel gear, bracelets and permits.
Good to know: wildlife is wild. Sightings are very likely in season but never guaranteed. Seas can be choppy; bring a light jacket and consider motion-sickness remedies.
(Add on extra cost $100.00 per person)

7:00 am - Pick up at the town square.
8:00 am – Arrival at north marina for check in and breakfast with briefing.

1:00 pm – Depart beach area for Snorkel tour and return to Marina.

Option 3: Beach and snorkel day
If your flight is soon or you simply want a soft landing, choose an easy beach day with a two-site snorkel inside the marine park. Each stop runs about 45 minutes over shallow coral heads with plenty of reef fish and frequent turtle sightings. Start times are flexible throughout the day.
Perks: 100 USD beach credit at Don Ernesto’s Beach Bar plus 20 percent off food and drinks. Great shore snorkeling sits right in front of the restaurant.
